Is anyone else tired of this crazy winter weather?

Looking out the window right now, the snow is coming down fast and furious.  We've had warnings to stay inside and off the roads because of icy conditions today.  This is North Carolina.  Crazy, crazy weather.  Yes, I know it's crazy everywhere, all over the US.

So, what do we do while being confined to the house?

How about sitting by a nice warm fire, reading to your hearts delight.  That's what I've been doing.  Catching up on some old Belva Plain books.

And drawing in my sketch book.
These birds will eventually end up on note cards in my etsy shop.  Next comes the paint.

I hope you're enjoying whatever it is you're doing today!
And I am wishing and wishing for warmer weather to hurry up and come soon!

Winter Wonderland in Wilson

The snow flakes started falling last night and by the time we went to bed we had a soft white blanket of snow everywhere.  Mother Nature's beauty at it's best.

This morning the snow is still falling.  We have about 2 inches here in Wilson, NC.

Otis prefers to stay inside on the sofa in his pile of blankets.  I opened the back door for him this morning and he turned around and came back in.

Enjoying the snow while it lasts!

What have I been doing?

Trying to stay warm, mostly.  It's been so cold the past few days I find myself (and Otis and Riley) sitting by a warm fire in cozy blankets.  I celebrated my birthday on Sunday and Galen bought me the most beautiful pink tulips!  They remind me of spring and I yearn for springtime weather and working in the garden.

We had a bit of snow on the weekend and it was so pretty.  Big fat snowflakes falling from the sky.  It didn't last very long but it was nice to see.  My youngest daughter, Amy, and Bruno and Esmé (our NY family) are coming down this weekend to visit.  I can't wait to see my now five month old granddaughter, little Esmé!  I haven't held her since she was a baby.  We are all really looking forward to this.

So cleaning is on my list this week, along with some cooking and baking.  Isn't it funny how the house gets a good cleaning when visitors come.
Have a good week, everyone!

January 2011

Happy New Year everyone!

A new year, a new day, new beginnings....

My wish for all of you my dear friends is that you will have happiness, good health, and peace in 2011.

We had a white Christmas this year and I wanted to show you some of our winter wonderland.

The snow was beautiful!

It's very unusual to get this much snow in North Carolina.

Otis and Riley enjoyed the snow, I think....

Our youngest daughter, Amy, was home for the holidays (from NYC) and actually got stuck here for an extra four days because of the weather conditions. Airports were closed and New York was practically shut down. So we enjoyed some fun time and loved having her here with us for the extra few days!

Look! Almost a foot of snow!

As I post this today, the snow is all gone, Amy has made it safely home, and our holiday with the whole family is now a warm memory of good times, smiles and cheer.

And....
I want to thank all of you, my dear blogging friends for a wonderful year of blogging. Thank you for your smiles, your kindess and your love. You have made this past year a very special one for me, and I look forward to another fun year of blogging with you.

Thank you all, and Best Wishes in 2011!

Hugs,

Donna

Blue snow

The garden looked blue this morning. All covered in a blanket of snow that fell last night.

A winter wonderland of blue snow.

Here today, gone tomorrow.

Ice in the birdbath

I went out to fill the bird feeders this morning and noticed ice in the birdbath. It's still really cold here, 32 degrees right now. On Sunday, however, it's supposed to hit 60 degrees....looking forward to that.

As you can see, we still have some leftover snow mostly in the shaded areas of the garden.

Otis and Riley will find whatever little spot of sun they can.

They waited for me.....

while I filled the bird feeders.

Too cold to be outside today.

Holiday decorating

Decorating has begun here at Mourning Dove Cottage.

The ornaments are hung....

and the Christmas tree is finished. I love red and gold and those are the colors I usually use in my decorating. The tree is decked out with some vintage Christmas ornaments that my mother and grandmother gave me along with some new fun ornaments too.

I decorated the mantel with a long evergreen garland and sparkly red snowflakes, a snow globe and a white and gold angel.

While we were decorating on Saturday, we had a light snow. It was beautiful. Galen took this photo of our house from across the street the next morning....by then some of the snow had already melted. Snow doesn't last very long here in the south but it was pretty while it lasted.

Enjoy your day!
Donna
