Drapes in the study/art room/computer room

....or maybe I should call it the multipurpose room, but we really do call it the study, and now it has some new drapes.

I got these fabulous drapes from my sister.  A deep burgandy velvet with a beautiful fringe trim.

They make the room feel cozy and warm (and you're thinking cozy and warm when it's 100 degrees outside, I must be crazy), but it's a nice room to retreat to in the cool air conditioning to paint, or read a book, or work on the computer.

It's fun to change out window dressings, and the nice thing about these, they didn't cost me anything!

What have I been doing?

Trying to stay warm, mostly.  It's been so cold the past few days I find myself (and Otis and Riley) sitting by a warm fire in cozy blankets.  I celebrated my birthday on Sunday and Galen bought me the most beautiful pink tulips!  They remind me of spring and I yearn for springtime weather and working in the garden.

We had a bit of snow on the weekend and it was so pretty.  Big fat snowflakes falling from the sky.  It didn't last very long but it was nice to see.  My youngest daughter, Amy, and Bruno and Esmé (our NY family) are coming down this weekend to visit.  I can't wait to see my now five month old granddaughter, little Esmé!  I haven't held her since she was a baby.  We are all really looking forward to this.

So cleaning is on my list this week, along with some cooking and baking.  Isn't it funny how the house gets a good cleaning when visitors come.
Have a good week, everyone!

The red kitchen

I still think there is something irresistible about a red kitchen.
It might be the fact that I love red, but red kitchens are always cozy and warm.  I found a few of these on Pinterest, and oh yes, I'm addicted to Pinterest lately!

I was actually thinking about painting my kitchen a creamy white, but I believe that I'll keep it red for now.

What color is your kitchen?
