A walk around the neighborhood

I am loving this warm spring weather.  My favorite season.  Everything is fresh and green and there is color everywhere.  It's the perfect time for taking walks.   

Otis loves his walks.  

These bright pink azaleas are in our front yard.  I look forward to seeing them bloom every year.

Good morning spring!

 What a beautiful day!  The sun is shining so bright.  Just what I've been waiting for, sunshine and warm weather.   It's been a really long winter.   

We have some early blooming flowers spreading a bit of color around the garden.     

The pollen is here and the bees are buzzing.   

Strawberry blossoms!  

And the azaleas are getting ready to show their beautiful colors.

Flowers everywhere...

Hello my friends.  I thought we would take a walk in the garden today and see what's blooming.  This time of year azaleas are at their peak here in the south and they are beautiful.      

We have just about every color there is to be had here at Mourning Dove Cottage.  

Last year I didn't plant any flowers because of cancer and I told myself this year I will be surrounded by flowers.  I will have them in every nook and cranny.  

Flowers everywhere.  What can be better?  

Hello sunshine and cooler weather

Hello everyone!  How are you?  This morning was one of those beautiful chilly fall-like mornings here at Mourning Dove Cottage.  I grabbed a sweater, poured myself a cup of coffee, and walked out on the back porch.    

Otis was curled up in a blanket snug as a bug in a rug.  

How about a stroll through the garden?  

We still have some summer color.  The purple Liriope looks pretty against the pink Encore azalea.  

The Virginia Creeper hanging over the garden fence will eventually turn a bright red in the fall, and below it you can already see the red berries of the Nandina bush.  

Do you remember the gourds I told you about?  We have quite a few and they are getting big.  I can't wait to make colorful crafty bird houses out of them!  

This cooler weather makes me want to start decorating for fall.....like putting blankets on the back porch, chrysanthemums in pots, a colorful fall flag on the porch, and an autumn wreath on the front door.

In case you're wondering how I am doing, well, I am doing fine.  The healing is coming along, the pain is tough to handle at times, but I am hanging in there.  I have been working on my exercises for my arms as that is very important right now.  I need to get my arms up over my head.  Next week I have an appointment for the radiation simulation which will show where I need to have the actual radiation.  Then radiation will probably start the following week.  So again, onward we go and hoping and praying this will soon be over.  

Oh happy day!

I woke up this morning feeling normal, yes, normal.  What a wonderful feeling!  That first week after chemo gets pretty tough.  But today the sun is shining and the birds are singing and I feel normal and happy.  Thank the Lord!  

I guess by now most of you know I have lost all my hair from the chemo.  Wow, what a shock that was.  I didn't think it was going to be so hard, but it was.  Sometimes I feel like an alien from outer space!  I've been wearing pretty scarves, hats, caps, and my wig......very strange though every time I put the wig on, just getting used to wearing it takes some effort and an attitude adjustment.    

Tomorrow is Easter and we will be spending the day with family.  I can hardly wait!  Jen, our oldest daughter and her husband are hosting.   A big Easter ham and an Easter egg hunt for the kids....and spending time with my granddaughter.  Happy Day!  

Our azaleas are beautiful right now.  Galen took some photos early in the week of our front yard.  Our street is filled with color.  I love this time of year.

Spring in the garden, and an update.....

I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden.

Hello everyone.  I thought I would give you a brief update as to how I'm feeling.  My chemo treatment went well last week.  The infusion was not bad at all.  However, the side effects are tough to deal with.  It's been a week now and I am just now getting my energy back.  Seems something new crops up everyday but I am doing fine and hoping for a good week before I go back for my second treatment on Thursday.  


The back porch and the garden are my healing haven.  The weather has been warm and sunny and we've been having some absolutely gorgeous days.  Spring has sprung here in our neck of the woods and dogwoods and azaleas are blooming all over town.  It's a beautiful time of year!  

I want to thank you once again for all your love and support and your kind thoughts and comments during this time.  It means the world to me and keeps me going.  I ask that you keep me in your prayers for this next coming treatment.
