Hello my friends

I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  I am slowly getting back into the swing of things today, laundry, cleaning, the usual, and it's too hot to work in the garden, oh yes, the weeds, always weeding to be done, so  

~ I opted to paint.     

A rooster painting I just finished, 

and another yellow and white polka dot plant hanger for the garden.  The one below just sold in our shop so I painted another one just like it.  The new one will have a glass crystal ornament hanging from the bottom.  It will catch the sunlight and sparkle!  These are nice to fill with herbs or flowers.

Roosters in the kitchen...

Do you have roosters in your kitchen?  Not the real ones, of course, but decorative ones.  I think it's the perfect place for them, and we have a few here at Mourning Dove Cottage.
If you have one of those glass chicken in a baskets you can display it some place where the light will hit it, maybe on a kitchen windowsill.  The colored glass is beautiful!   

I'm framing one of my rooster paintings to hang in the kitchen.

A rooster basket (if you can see it) is hanging with the copper pots (below).

This is where I decided to hang the rooster painting.  Right above the kitchen door leading into the dining room.  I think it's the perfect spot.

A Rooster Painting

This is my latest rooster painting.
I love the black and white with the red contrasting color.
Painted on heavy watercolor paper with acrylic paint, it measures 5 x 7 inches.

He's framed in a distressed frame that looks like old barn boards.


And he's for sale in my etsy shop!

Good morning to you! I hope you all had a great weekend. I finished a painting of a rooster yesterday and wanted to show it to you.





This rooster is painted on a wooden tray. The wooden tray was handmade in Galen's shop. I will complete the tray today with a final coat of varnish and then attach the metal handles on each side. When that's done it will be listed on whimsytwo.


I've always loved the crow of the rooster early in the morning at my grandmother's house. Brings back great memories of sleep overs and country living.

A rooster

I'm on a roll this week. My dear hubby has been making wooden trays in the shop and for every tray he brings in I have an idea in my mind what I want to paint.

I love painting roosters.

Each tray is completely handmade, hand painted and original. I've given this rooster a country look....maybe a french country look with the cream background. Sort of rustic.

It's finished and ready to go in the whimsy two shop.

I already know what my next one is going to be.

Everyday dishes

These are my everyday dishes ~ "Red Honey" Stoneware. I bought them several years ago at Carolina Pottery all boxed up, a setting for six.



I've since added yellow soup bowls that I found at Walmart that go very well with the "red honey".

Last week I broke one of my dinner plates. Ugh, hate when that happens. I knew there was no finding my same dinner ware, so I thought I could do some mixing and matching.

I was happy when I found these...

a pretty pattern, Italian looking, with just the right colors.

Found at Walmart for $3.96 a plate.

They all go together, and I can even add more if I want (coffee cups and bowls too)!

Happy as a rooster!

I'm rearranging my kitchen cupboards today (inside working......it's way too hot to be outside).

Quiet time

A chilly morning calls for time to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and some of my favorite magazines. Do you keep favorite magazines that you love and just can't seem to throw away? (A great hiding place is under the sofa.)




Otis and Riley like to nap by my side when I'm reading. Riley is here....and Otis is up on the back of the couch behind my head. Always nearby.





I like to paint on days when it's too chilly to be in the garden, and today was one of those days. I finished painting a wooden rooster that hubby made and carved in the woodshop.

Painting and dreaming of warm weather...

I've been doing a lot of painting since it's so cold outside right now and I can't be in the garden. Maybe this weekend.....the forecast is supposed to be warmer and I have some onions, garlic and chives to put in. Hurry up spring!

I was comissioned to do a painting of a rooster for Penny at The Comforts of Home. She loves roosters and has quite a collection. If you don't know Penny, stop by to see her. She's a mosaic artist. She shares her beautiful home and also enjoys gardening and cooking.

Here is the rooster painting. It's 5x7 and done with acrylic paints on watercolor paper.

I started another painting yesterday of a field of daisies. I had this idea in my mind and I also thinks it's because I'm SO ready for spring and warm weather.

It's still in the works.

I have quite a bit to do, but I thought I'd show you anyway.
