Remember our feathered friends

On these cold gray days of winter, remember our feathered friends.  Even though they find berries and bugs to eat, it's nice for them to have an outdoor cafeteria!

Give them safflower seeds.  The cardinals and songbirds love them.

Or just a wild birdseed mix will do, and you'll see blue jays, finches, chickadees and titmice (the mourning dove will eat what falls on the ground).  Bring out the suet cakes and make the woodpeckers and nuthatches happy.

And always remember fresh water in the birdbath.

Happy Birds,
and you'll enjoy watching them!

I have a bird feeder in view of the kitchen window. It really brightens a dark winter day to observe the comings and goings. Since feeding the birds in the winter I've found I get more birds in the summer too.

A good reminder to think of our feathered friends, Donna.
I feed them year round and enjoy watching them and listening to their sweet singing. I do need to get out there and tend to the birdbath though.

I really miss feeding the birds, but we've had feral cats for several years and I stopped feeding the birds because of them. Don't want a "cafeteria" for the cats. I was just talking to Hubby this morning about bird songs/calls. I remember my mother saying they learned the calls in school. We do have a bird bath and I planted plants that would attract birds, but I still miss the feeders. Actually, I think we fed more squirrels than birds. :)

It's been so snowy here that it's hard to get to the feeders so I just throw some seed on the patio. They seem to enjoy it. Especially the quail that wander by. Better than nothing at this point. Love your little bird painting. Mimi

Love having a bird feeder....however we live across from a park...and there are so many squirrels that scare the birds away and ruin the feeder....still trying to find that "perfect" squirrel proof bird feeder....if anyone knows of one let us know!!

I always keep an "all you can eat" buffet for my feathered friends. However, lately I think I've been feeding the hawk that lives in the trees next door. Broke my heart when he killed a white pigeon that I had been feeding for several weeks. I guess he was an easy target being so white and so large. I miss him though. He was beautiful.
