Remember our feathered friends

On these cold gray days of winter, remember our feathered friends.  Even though they find berries and bugs to eat, it's nice for them to have an outdoor cafeteria!

Give them safflower seeds.  The cardinals and songbirds love them.

Or just a wild birdseed mix will do, and you'll see blue jays, finches, chickadees and titmice (the mourning dove will eat what falls on the ground).  Bring out the suet cakes and make the woodpeckers and nuthatches happy.

And always remember fresh water in the birdbath.

Happy Birds,
and you'll enjoy watching them!

Birds and Otis

If I were a bird, I'd sing a song
And fly about the whole day long
And when the night comes, go to rest,
Up in my cozy little nest.
by Jackie Silberg

Here are some more birds I've been busy painting.

And speaking of birds, I was out running errands and stopped by the ATM for some cash and here comes a seagull walking right up to my car.

He came closer. I think he was hungry. Of course, all I had in the car was some old candy corn from halloween. Oh, well. Sorry little guy.

So when I got home, just for the fun of it, I got on the computer and played some seagull sounds.

Check out Otis when he heard them.

Be sure to stop by my etsy shop to see more birds.
Enjoy your day!

A September day

We're finally getting some relief from the heat, and this morning was a great day for a walk. Otis and Riley were raring to go! The cool morning air felt SO good and we walked and ran and meandered our way to the park and back. Love this weather!

Some new blooms in the garden ~ they looked so pretty in the morning light.

I ran some errands, stopped at Goodwill (no good finds today), then came home and did some painting. My art table is in the study by the window and usually when I paint, Otis and Riley curl up on the sofa beside me. As you can see, they made themselves comfortable.

This is where I paint.

I must admit though, not a lot of painting got done today. It was too nice outside.

And look what I noticed at the bird feeder. This little guy fell asleep!

How cute!

Cardinal

Another bird painting. This painting I just finished last evening. It's acrylic on watercolor paper 4 x 6.

The cardinal is our state bird here in North Carolina.

It is sometimes called the Winter Redbird because it is most noticeable during the winter when it is the only "redbird" present.
