It's the little things

...that sometimes make us the happiest,

like a good cup of coffee in our favorite mug,

early morning sunshine after a rain storm,

.....and spending time with our grand kids.

We had our granddaughter spend a few days with us this week. She's not so little anymore, in fact, she seems to grow taller each time we see her. Just having her around and enjoying simple things like playing board games and sewing a pillow, made me realize how much fun can be had in little things. And what a joy seeing her smiling face each morning.

It's just the little things.....

but sometimes the little things make the biggest difference!

Rain.....and some puttering

Finally,
some much needed rain...
and some cooler temps too!
We've had two days of rain and it's been wonderful.

Today I'm doing some puttering inside....arranging my picture wall in the study.

All of the paintings hanging in this room are original. Some are done by my daughter, Amy, the artist in NY, some are done by me, and the small one above the computer is done by my granddaughter.

Paintings are hung all around the room.

Oh, and I have one that was painted by Fifi, too (the lower one in the photo below on the wall).

On one side of this room we have our antique roll top desk that we bought for $50 when we were first married.

And on the opposite side of the room by the window is where I paint.

Even though this room seems cramped at times, it also a very cozy room.

Living in a small cottage I've learned to make use of every inch of space that we have. Very challenging, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think the arrangement is good, for now, but, who knows, I may be rearranging the room again next week.

Enjoy your day!

Spring break and walks

Otis and Riley and I have been enjoying our long spring walks.

Blooms are popping everywhere. The pear trees and forsythia bushes are so pretty this time of year.

Our granddaughter is on spring break and is coming to stay with us for a few days. We're looking forward to having some fun outside. The next few days are supposed to be really warm with temps in the 80's!
I was at the garden center the other day and just HAD to buy a red geranium. I'll be buying more later....you know how I love geraniums!

Be back soon. Enjoy your day!

Sweet Maddie

Our granddaughter came to stay with us for a few days.

We spent time at the park...

fed the ducks...

did some cooking together...

had breakfast on the patio...

played badmitten in the back yard (the birdie and the racket somehow ended up in the tree!)...

went swimming at the pool...

went shopping, played card games, painted some art projects, watched movies, played computer games, walked Otis and Riley, and lots of other things ~ and we had so much fun. There was lots of activity and also time spent together talking, laughing and telling stories.
I took her home this afternoon which is about an hour drive. We stopped at Starbucks and had a snack along the way.
The house is quiet now, and I'm near exhaustion. Time to get back to the ol' routine.
"Love you, Sweet Maddie"!

Smile,

and the world smiles with you.

I may be away from the computer for the next few days because my granddaughter is coming to stay and we have lots of fun things planned. I'll be back later.

A dance recital

Our granddaughter had her clogging dance recital on Saturday. It was held at the local high school and it was quite an event. The program featured ballet, hip hop, clogging, jazz and tap. Cameras were not allowed during the actual recital so I took some before and after photos. It was an excellent program, and she danced fabulously!

Trophy and flowers for a job well done.
After the show we headed for a nearby coffee shop. As you can see, the little one was tired out.
