Virginia Creeper

I've always liked this vine, but I know a lot of people don't. Some think it's very invasive and some even think it's poison (but it's not).

It has beautiful leaves that are absolutely gorgeous turning from a yellowish orange to a bright red this time of year.

I left it grow up the wall near the dovecote and love how it looks. I guess some people would call it a weed, but to me, it's a beautiful vine and I'm happy to have it in my garden.

A new home for the dove

The dovecote is finished.

Galen put the final touches on the dovecote this weekend and I finished the painting. I decided to use the same color paint as our house.

The roof is cedar shake which were left over pieces from a project on part of our house, and on top of the dovecote is one of those old electrical wire guides that we used for a finial to add a bit of whimsy. There are three openings, but actually four "apartments" for the dove. The top floor has a double.

We hung it at the side of Mourning Dove Cottage tucked in a nice cozy corner. Hopefully the dove will find it very accomodating.

I am happy as a clam with my new dovecote.

Thank you, Galen.

It's just what I wanted.

Dovecote

Dovecote ~ a house for dove or pigeons.

Dovecotes are unique and sometimes beautiful structures. I've always loved them.

We have a lot of dove that nest every year in our pergola over the back patio and sometimes in the jasmine over the front door. They build their flimsy little nests wherever they can.

I got to thinking the other day, wouldn't it be nice to have a dovecote here at Mourning Dove Cottage?

(Hubby holds his breath whenever I come up with one of my ideas.)

But he said he would make one for me.

I showed him the photos, and I like this white one above and this one below.

And speaking of dove, one has already built it's nest in the pergola out back.

Oh, how I love watching them and hearing their soft coos.

Just a matter of time now until I have my new dovecote

(or should I say the dove will have their new dovecote)!
