Dividing, moving, and sharing

My Bearded Iris were beautiful this spring, but I wasn't happy where I planted the bed last year. I thought the bed needed to be moved to another part of the garden. They were spreading like crazy, so it was a good time to divide, move the bed, and give some away.

Iris are fairly easy to divide because the rhizomes grow at soil level. Just use a pitch fork or shovel and carefully lift them out of the ground. You can divide iris anytime after flowering through August.

I planted my new bed at the side of the veggie garden and the rest will be shared with the neighbors.

Hi Donna, you are doing now what I will be doing with my Irises in the fall. I need to divide mine as well. One crop of them on the side of the house did well this year bloom wise, while the ones in my back garden didn't...they are telling me now that it is time to divide them for next year. Have fun in your garden my friend.

I will be doing my Iris this fall also. I am running our of room and people to give them too! I would like to add some more color to the garden and just don't know what to do with the ones I have!

some of the plants in our garden were fund by the wayside from someone else discarding them..(sad for them but good for us..)

enjoy your day..it is going to be hot here...but on LI we get natural AC (sometimes)

I didn't know you could divide them now, I thought you had to wait for fall. Great news! I think I will divide mine too. My are new to me from last fall, when friends shared theirs.
Hugs,
Penny

Here we divide iris in the fall. They are such beautiful plants...I love them, both for their architectual interest and of course their beautiful blooms...these look very pretty. They have a nice scent also. Have fun!

Our irises haven't started to bloom yet. Hopefully soon. We had a little snow yesterday! Your birdhouse is adorable. Mimi
