January

It's always time for a new calendar in January and this year I picked up a gardening calendar ~ the Old Farmer's Almanac Calendar. It's filled with all sorts of little tidbits of information, gardening advice and folklore.

Pretty illustrations, very simple and colorful.

I also thought it would be fun to follow along in the Harris' Old Farmer's Almanac. I've always found astronomy intriguing and I think it's amazing how the phases of the moon and sun determine when plantings should be done. This little book is filled with great tips on how and when to prune plants, start the vegetable garden, what and when to plant, also, flowers and berrries and seeds for the birds. There are interesting stories of times gone by.

I'm already looking forward to planning the flower and vegetable garden for this year. Going through catalogs and magazines helps with the winter blues!

Always exciting when the gardening catalogs start rolling in after the first of the year. I've gotten 3 so far :-)

Hi Donna - have you ever thought about doing a calendar of your wonderful artwork? I love the paintings of your little dachshund helpers. They are delightful.
happy painting in 2009!

I love those calenders; my mother used to give me one for Christmas every year, as she (and I) are avid gardeners.;) And I liked the information in them, with advices on when to plant certain plants, when to trim bushes, when to mow the lawn, when to do what in which season. It was very useful.;)

Hi Donna, Happiest of New Year's to you. Ah the word gardening, in general, makes me think of spring...

The photos of Otis and Riley from below...are so cute, as always.

I love calendars too. Love the art or photography. I was reading the other day about the Farmer's Almanac and how the weather predictions are very accurate. I'm looking forward to spring. I vote that you do a calendar too.
