Painting rocks

When I was young I painted rocks. My friends and I would get together in one of our backyards, and with our pile of rocks that we collected and some paint and a bucket of water, we created colorful pictures on each one. When finished, off we would go to all of the neighbors with hopes of selling them. We did other projects too, like making pot holders from the old hook looms and took those door to door. We were the little neighborhood entrepreneurs.

I don't remember if we sold any, but it is a childhood memory I hold dear ~ those sunny summer mornings when we had the whole day to play, giggle and have fun.

I'm still painting rocks. This is actually a paperweight (it's still a painted rock, but I'm calling it a paperweight). So, with a pile of rocks in my backyard and lots of ideas in my head, there are more rocks (paperweights) to come!

How pretty Donna. My children always painted rocks when they were little - at home & on holidays. We still have a few scattered in the garden that were painted 20 years ago :-}

I have a painted rock that I bought....hmmmm...30 some years ago with a turtle on it and I still love it! I love things painted on natural items instead of canvas.....wood, rocks, slate. The natural textures really work for me, Great work :-)

Donna, that's so pretty, your painted rocks. I loved collecting rocks when I was growing up, just loved the texture of them.

And your seashell collection is great too. Nothing prettier than seashells.

Donna,

You inspired me. Oh, I wish I had time to paint rocks... My pond is surrounded by a few hundred perfect rocks. I would try to decorate them and place them here and there - sort of as my signature at the pond. Very nice idea!

P.S. When I was little, we didn't "paint" rocks, but I remember using crayons on them :o)

What a great project. I have a few books on painting rocks that have been sitting on my shelf for years. I may have to dust them off now.

Have a great week!

Love those, Mom! Maddie loves painting rocks, too. We once made a whole rock family. Wonder where that little troop is at these days...

That's beautiful! I bought some painted rocks from an artist who did an instruction book on them. We both had a booth at a decorative painting convention and I fell in love with them.
