Are you ready for fall?

I'm sorry for my absence but sometimes life just gets in the way. I want to say thank you for all your well wishes during Hurricane Irene. We weathered the storm and had a few limbs down, two small uprooted trees, and standing water in the backyard. It's been a hectic week but my garden is slowly returning to its natural state.

I'm ready for fall to begin, how about you?
Our mornings have been cooler, a sweater has made it's way out of my closet, mums are at the garden centers and market baskets are filled with apples to be enjoyed ~ just a few signs that fall is on it's way! And it's now September.

This coming weekend we will enjoy the last of the baseball games, and a Labor Day get-together at my sister's.

I hope all of you will have a great weekend. I'll be around to visit you next week.

Hope everyone had a nice long enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

The weather was perfect and we spent time working in the yard and garden, went to my sister's for a cook-out and celebrated our son-in-law's birthday. Great weekend! Fun with family and relaxing too.

Yesterday I painted a handmade wooden tray (that Galen made in the shop) and did this one with peonies. Quite a few people have been interested in the peony trays so here is another one that will be listed in my etsy shop.

It's painted a mustard color with pink and white peonies and made to look old
~ a vintage or antique look ~

These wooden trays are great for decorating....
or use them what they're meant for ~ serving!

Birds

There's a place called Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park here in NC and that's where we spent our Labor Day Saturday. It was the most beautiful Fall day and a nice drive.

A large rustic porch with lots of rockers welcomed us. A place to sit, take a break and have a nice cool drink.

We walked along the friendly trails filled with flowers. There were ducks and water fowl everywhere. You could let yourself in and out of the different gates where the birds nested and roamed.

Cute little ducks and a big Mr. Toucan.

All kinds of water fowl, large and small, some were colorful and some not so colorful, but all with a uniqueness about them.

There were so many I couldn't begin to tell you all the names, although some were very familiar.

The kuckaberra and, of course, the flamingos.

A lovely white swan swimming in the water...

and butterflies flitting about.

A magnificant park and a beautiful place to visit.

Fun and relaxation

We had a great Labor Day weekend. Beautiful weather! Otis and Riley had fun too, we took them in the car Saturday (they love riding in the car) to the rec center so they could run and explore, and then we picked up sandwiches and had a picnic in the park.

Sunday we had a cookout with family, grilled chicken and all the good fixin's that go with it, along with a birthday cake for Rob that his mother made, ummm carrot cake. We also played bocce ball in the back yard and sat around and caught up on all the latest news. Such a fun day.

And the rest of the weekend Galen and I had to ourselves, catching up on projects, going for coffee, and relaxing at Barnes and Noble with a good book.

Labor Day Weekend

Wow! It's hard to believe it's Labor Day weekend. Summer is coming to an end. I must admit, I'm ready for it.
We have a cookout and birthday party planned; maybe even a road trip with hubby.
Well, happy Labor Day! See you next week.
