I am trying to decide how to do this in my back yard. These two photos are from a magazine. The pea gravel walkways seem to accent the flower gardens and the raised beds giving them a beautiful clean look.
Below is what I have right now. We have pathways meandering in the back yard to different areas.
And we have raised beds in the vegetable garden. It could be done, but there is the yard to consider and some type of border between the grass and the gravel. Hmmmmm......
Pea gravel pathways ~ still in the thinking stages. Of course I have to consider the weiner dogs in the whole process because they need space to run and play.
So the debate goes on in my mind.

I have used lots of gravel in my garden...for paths, sitting areas and in what I call the muse area of my driveway. I use river rock as edging. I love it!

The pea gravel looks very pretty but I wonder if t would iritate your dog's paws?
Last fall we installed pea gravel pathways in our back yard and around our raised kitchen garden. We used a bendable edging to contain the gravel. This summer we will dig grass away from the edges and plant flowers and bushes. They will be the divider between the lawn and the gravel paths.

That gravel doesn't work well when you have to mow around it.You woukld need dog area and garden in separate modes. Mulch doesn't sting as bad or break windows.
I do love the pea gravel. And I use to have it. But we seemed to track it inside, where it damaged the floors. So last fall I had decomposed granite put in between my flagstone. I like it a lot. I can just sweep it!

I do love the look of pea gravel, but I find it difficult to walk on it.
We use a lot of gravel in our gardens. The only thing is it can get a little messy sometimes. I have also learned not to overdo it with the gravel. There are a lot of plants that don't like to grow in it.
I adore pea gravel! I'm afraid my grandsons would use it for ammo though. We've got a backyard to install this summer. We've been trying to get a plan together. So many decisions! Mimi
It looks wonderful and so organic. I think it would look so good in your garden. Some may find it impractical, but it might be worth it!

This is a dilemma for me, too...my only thought is that we have tons of leaves down in the fall...I wonder how hard it would be to keep the gravel in the path when we are raking or blowing the leaves? So pretty and I love the English cottage garden look, too!
