A Dutch door

A Dutch door defined by wikpedia is a door divided horizontally in such a fashion that the bottom half may remain shut while the top half opens. The initial purpose of this door was to keep animals out of farm houses, while allowing light and air to filter through the open top.

We don't live in a farm house but we do have animals......two mischievous little wiener dogs.

And we now have a Dutch door too.

And the reason for having a Dutch door?

These two little guys.

Just recently, they started pulling down the gate that we put up to confine them to the kitchen whenever we were away. A week ago they got out and chewed the line to the internet. Not only did they do that, but they somehow opened the kitchen cupboards and got into the trash container.

We had a door in the attic that was originally made for there in the kitchen, so dearest hubby cut it off and made it into a Dutch door.
Not only did he do that but he also installed new latches on the kitchen cupboards to make them tighter.

Problem solved.

And the wiener duo have been good so far.

I love all sorts of antique doors but Dutch doors are my favorite. I hope to have one someday!
Otis and Riley are too cute. I have a cat named Riley. I had her name picked out before I even got her...because, I knew the next cat I got was going to lead the life of RILEY! Happy Fall from Houston!

When I was growing up my best friend had a Dutch door to her backyard. I always thought it was the neatest thing! Your door looks fabulous and now Otis and Riley won't be on Santa's "bad dog" list any longer :)
