We don't live in a farm house but we do have animals......two mischievous little wiener dogs.
And we now have a Dutch door too.
And the reason for having a Dutch door?
Problem solved.
These two little guys.
Just recently, they started pulling down the gate that we put up to confine them to the kitchen whenever we were away. A week ago they got out and chewed the line to the internet. Not only did they do that, but they somehow opened the kitchen cupboards and got into the trash container.
We had a door in the attic that was originally made for there in the kitchen, so dearest hubby cut it off and made it into a Dutch door.
Not only did he do that but he also installed new latches on the kitchen cupboards to make them tighter.
Problem solved.

Donna, I just have always loved Dutch doors! Yours is wonderful! I love the picture of the first one you posted too! Glad the boys are behaving now!!
I love all sorts of antique doors but Dutch doors are my favorite. I hope to have one someday!
Otis and Riley are too cute. I have a cat named Riley. I had her name picked out before I even got her...because, I knew the next cat I got was going to lead the life of RILEY! Happy Fall from Houston!
That is hilarious! I love the dutch door a nice addition to your home even if it was for a purpose, lol!
Oh, I love this post! The door looks great! I keep wondering when our two naughty pugs decide to breach our gate LOL! Love your cute, naughty dogs...
But they have such innocent faces! Are you sure it wasn't someone else?
When I was growing up my best friend had a Dutch door to her backyard. I always thought it was the neatest thing! Your door looks fabulous and now Otis and Riley won't be on Santa's "bad dog" list any longer :)
What a creative and charming way to solve the problem. I love dutch doors and have always wanted one.(-:
