The State Fair

It's that time of year!

We went to the North Carolina State Fair on Thursday with my sister and her husband. It was Food Hunger Relief Day and that's the day you bring four cans of Food Lion food and get in free. All the canned food benefits the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC.

The Award Winning Blue Ribbon Pumpkin this year happened to weigh 846 pounds! That's one big pumpkin!

Galen, my dearest hubby, entered his "John Deere" wooden marble chaser toy in the Hobbies and Crafts Competition. He won 2nd prize! A red ribbon.

And, our daughter, Jen, entered the Web Design Competion and won 3rd prize!

Here's Galen, below, and you can see the green marble chaser in the background with the red ribbon.

I loved seeing all the colorful produce. The large watermelon below weighed over 200 pounds.

And what would a fair be without all that delicious fair food...we had yummy Italian sausages, french fries, funnel cakes, apple fritters, and homemade ice cream.

We checked out the Live Stock.

The goats were adorable....
and so were these sheep.

At the Folk Festival Tent we enjoyed some blue grass music, fiddlers, and dancers.

We watched the Racing Pigs and Goats.
I wanted to bring one of these little pot bellied pigs home with me.

And, the Gardens......my favorite part. The mums were gorgeous.

I'd like to have one of these red bottle trees in my back yard.

One area of the Gardens had some fun and unusual garden art lamps that were bird feeders.
So clever whimsical!

And we took a few photos of us.

My sister and me on the BIG chair. We felt like Lillian Thomlin.

And........last but not least, the carved pumpkin heads.

Ever since I moved to NC I've wanted to go to the state fair. Haven't made it yet, but after seeing your post I want to go more than ever. It looks like a nice one and your pictures are all so good. Love the one of you and your sister in the big chair.
Congratulations to your hubby and daughter on their awards.

What a great day! And, what a great fair. You have such a nice garden section in your fair, sadly ours is very pathetic. Love the pictures...especially the one in the chair.
