I'm usually up before dawn and enjoy my quiet time with a cup of coffee. It's very gray outside today and we've had so much rain lately. Last evening we got hit with a bad storm and tornados touched down on the outskirts of town. The strong winds left their mark, but thankfully no one was hurt.
My thoughts go back years ago, right after we were married, a tornado struck our house in Cape May, NJ. It ripped the roof off and tore the house apart. Galen was on duty that night at the Coast Guard Base and I was alone. Luckily I survived unhurt with my cat, Tuffy, but what a nightmare.
...................time for another cup of coffee. It's 8:30 am already, the sun is peaking through the clouds and the garden is calling me.

I can't even imagine what you went through during that tornado alone. I'm so glad you and your kitty made it through safely. The antique festival in Cameron, NC, looks like a WONDERFUL event. Those homes all look so pretty! Sounds like a really fun time. :) Love that chair!
We had a little tornado touch down Sun. night about 20 miles north of us. Very rare here in Utah. You must have been terrified, being alone. I've been in lots of earthquakes and it makes me feel like I am so not in control of anything. Nature is way more powerful than my puny person. Your antique festival looks wonderful. Love the old homes and I think you got a great deal on your metal chair. Mimi
Being through a tornado that destroyed ones home must have been very traumatic.
I have bee through hurricane Fran (when it hit Raleigh/Durham in 96), but it was only very scary, no damage to the house where I lived.
However, I also lived through the hurricane Marylin that struck the US Virgin Islands in 95 and that was more serious as it damaged the hotel where we stayed.
Hope you enjoy your quiet morning, despite it being grey.;)
Hi Donna, We are having the same weather, gray and gloomy and rainy. Yesterday I had to venture out across the river and into the city and it was pouring rain the whole time. What a night mare. But I don't mind being inside with the weather, all hunkered down and cozy. The grass has grown a foot tall with all this rain. Bobby G. has his job cut out for him when the sun comes out. xo Lynn
i envy your quiet morning time. i only get that on the weekends. big sigh!! tornadoes are no fun. i was in one as a young adult and it was no fun. luckily no one was hurt.

I'm never up before dawn, but I do treasure that first cup of coffee. We had some significant storms and rain here as well.
Cape May? I listen to a cooking show on the radio each Sunday hosted by a chef that lives there.
Food Talk with Mike Colameco
Adore my morning coffee....love, kelee
When you mentioned Cape May in your post, it brought back childhood memories. My grandfather was a Presbyterian preacher and his church owned the Christian Admiral hotel in Cape May. I would go there with my grandparents sometimes. What a grand place it was! I was saddened and almost distraught when I learned a few years back that they tore it down. I may just have to post a picture of it on one of my blogs in the very near future. Oh well, life goes on. Thanks for the post and triggering the memories! D~~~~
We've had lots of rain lately also. Fortunately, no tornadoes. Makes getting the yardwork done a little difficult.
Nothing is worse then being at the shore during any kind of storm...but tornados scare the heck out of me....the alarms here go off at the drop of a hat...
