One of the things we've been wanting to do here at Mourning Dove Cottage is cut back on yard maintenance.
Over the years the shrubs and trees have grown so large that we seemed to be pruning and cutting back all the time. Outside the back door along the picket fence bordering the driveway were three big holly bushes. They had to go.
Rosemary, sage, parsley, oregano and chives. I'll be adding more as time goes by.

I agree with you on wanting to cut back on the yard maintenance. Things sure do grow fast down here, don't they?
You have selected a perfect location for your herb garden. It will be so convenient for you.
I love that photo of your kitchen door with the yellow mum.
We love our herb garden. We grow oregano, which we dry, chives, rosemary, cilantro, and basil. We also made a big mistake and planted mint in the ground instead of a pot and it's everywhere now! Mimi
I'm trying to grow an herb garden - not having too much luck, but I'll keep trying!
Hi Donna...Your herbs will be so convenient for you. I have a few in a large container by the deck, but my herb garden is way on the other side of the house. They grow like crazy there, but they aren't handy for me.If they were closer maybe they wouldn't do so well as I am a over waterer.
Balisha.
Don't forget lavender & thyme. Those are my faves. Seeds are the best way to go too.
I've been trying to get my garden under control with less maintenance too. Something has been killing my knockout roses the last couple of years and I've decided not to replace them due to their huge thorns.
What a perfect place for an herb garden! That is one of the first things I am planting when we get our new home. This year I have had to have my herbs in pots....
I love this idea...I need to do something like it! Looks so pretty, too!
