A new home for the dove

The dovecote is finished.

Galen put the final touches on the dovecote this weekend and I finished the painting. I decided to use the same color paint as our house.

The roof is cedar shake which were left over pieces from a project on part of our house, and on top of the dovecote is one of those old electrical wire guides that we used for a finial to add a bit of whimsy. There are three openings, but actually four "apartments" for the dove. The top floor has a double.

We hung it at the side of Mourning Dove Cottage tucked in a nice cozy corner. Hopefully the dove will find it very accomodating.

I am happy as a clam with my new dovecote.

Thank you, Galen.

It's just what I wanted.

  1. Oh Donna how beautiful! I've always wanted a 'dovecote' and here on the farm goodness knows we have a lot of them. Yours is just gorgeous and I love where you put it. Pats on the back to your hubby and you did a wonderful paint job! I hope it fills up soon.

  10. I have been begging my husband to build me a replica of a dovecote I found in an OLD English book completely dedicated to the subject. Yours is most excellent! We too have the mourning doves, I love the sweet coo they make, and the slow, graceful way they stroll across the grass, so unlike the little hopping sparrows. Glad you found my "Recipe" for the garden markers, I made about 70 of them!
